The UBC Faculty of Graduate Studies and the UBC Graduate Student Society provide excellent orientation sessions and planned social events for new students in order to help new students get oriented to the city and the campus. Anthropology Departmental Orientations

Incoming Student Orientation will be held Tuesday September 7,2:30pm in the graduate student lounge, AnSo. During this orientation, the Chair of the Anthropology Graduate Studies Committees will go over some basic information on how best to plan your program. The session will also cover some information on the Department, the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FoGS), and the Graduate Student Association (GSS).

TA Orientation - Tuesday September 7, 10:30am, AnSo 134: All new TAs should plan to attend this orientation session. This session will cover the policies and procedures involved in being a TA in the Department of Anthropology at UBC as well as provide you with tips that will be make your TA experience more fulfilling and enjoyable.

Tri-Council Workshop (TBA): The Tri-council competition is the main fellowship competition at UBC. Awards range from $35,000 per annum for 3 years to $400. All incoming students should plan to attend this workshop and apply for this competition if they are eligible. The workshop will cover how to prepare for the competition and how to put together a winning application. Current students are welcome.

A variety of useful information can also be found at the front of the Graduate Student Handbook, a free dayplanner given out by the UBC Graduate Student Society (GSS). These are distributed in your AnSo mailbox at the beginning of the academic year.
