Arts Co-Op Program
The Co-op program at UBC allows students to combine their academic studies with in-the-field experience. There are many benefits of the program to students. By observing how real-world work places function, students can bring a new perspective back to their studies and get more out of their time at UBC. As well, having study-related work experience helps the chances of obtaining a rewarding position when students graduate.
I encourage you to make yourself familiar with the program by checking out the information below, including the Student Profile, or by visiting the Arts Co-op website at http://co-op.arts.ubc.ca.
Best wishes with your studies.
Brian Chisholm, Co-op advisor, Department of Anthropology.
What is Co-operative Education?
The UBC Arts Co-op Program is open to all students in the B.A., B.F.A., and B. Mus. undergraduate degree programs, and to graduate students in the MLIS/MAS, and Joint degree programs.Through co-op, students alternate practical, paid work experience of 4 months in length in various fields of interest with their academic studies. Co-op graduates are well prepared, academically and professionally, for their future careers.
Co-op Coordinators work closely with employers locally, nationally, and internationally to develop challenging, career-related positions for co-op students.
Last year, 37% of UBC Arts Co-op placements were in the non-profit sector, 41% in the public sector, and 22% were with private business.
